1. Bangkok, Central Thailand
Some of Thailand's most beautiful structures may be seen in Bangkok, including the grand temples at the Grand Palace and the enormous Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho. It's also where your trip to Thailand will probably begin, so it's a fantastic spot to start learning about the country's distinctive culture. The old city of Chiang Mai is surrounded by the ancient Lanna walls and is home to several absolutely gorgeous historical buildings, some of which are over 700 years old. You can hire a bike for a day and tour the city at your own pace.

3. Doi Inthanon, Northern Thailand
At 2,565 meters (8,415 ft), Doi Inthanon, located not too far from Chiang Mai, is the highest mountain in Thailand and it gets the kind of weather you don't usually get in Thailand from the cooler-than-usual breeze of the mountains to sometimes even frost in the early morning during the wintertime, and it would be a shame to visit Northern Thailand and not go up this magnificent mountain. Within Doi Inthanon National Park, you will find some of the most stunning waterfalls in Chiang Mai province such as the mighty Wachirathan Waterfall and the stunning cascades of Mae Ya Waterfall. At the top, there are also several hikes you can do, and one of the best hikes there is the Kew Mae Pan trail where you can hike along the mountain ridge where you will be able to witness the sea of clouds as it hovers above the valley below from the highest point in Thailand.

4. Mae Hong Son Loop, Northern Thailand
One of the nicest road drives you can have in Thailand is certainly the Mae Hong Son Loop. The Mae Hong Son Loop, which begins and ends in Chiang Mai, is a 600-kilometer route that circles the remote northern province of Mae Hong Son. It will take you through some of the most breathtaking scenery you will ever see in Thailand. The Mae Hong Son Loop will take you to locations such as Mae Sariang, a peaceful rural town on the Yuam River's bank, the provincial capital of Mae Hong Son, which is home to numerous magnificent Burmese-style temples, the Mexican Sunflower Field, which extends across several hills as far as the eye can see, and the Chinese-influenced town of Mae Hong Son.

5. Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand
Another region in Northern Thailand that is a must-see is Chiang Rai. Although it may appear to be a boring provincial town with little to do, Chiang Rai actually has a lot to offer. For starters, Chiang Rai is home to the White Temple, one of the finest and most intricately crafted temples in the nation, which is entirely covered in incredibly fine sculptures and carvings made of glass and painted white. It is a temple, yet it is not like any other temple you have seen. Not too far, you will also find the all-painted-blue temple dubbed the Blue Temple, another great piece of art, the massive Wat Huay Pla Kang Chinese temple, home to the giant Guany Yi Statue, and the colorful statues at Wat Saeng Kaeo Phothiyan. As you can see, Chiang Rai is known for its beautiful work of art which is what the province is known for. It is also rich in history with the ancient city of Chiang Saen where you will be able to witness the boiling pot between Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos where the 3 countries share the border.

6. Sukhothai, Northern Thailand
The original capital city of Siam, created in the 13th century by the renowned King Ramkhamhaeng, was once located in Sukhothai, a seemingly little hamlet in lower northern Thailand. Sukhothai is regarded as the birthplace of Thai civilization. Sukhothai is the best destination to learn about Thai history because it is the cradle of everything traditional, including Thai art and architectural styles that are used throughout the nation. In Sukhothai, you will find the massive Sukhothai Historical Park where you will be able to bike around the many well-preserved ancient structures from the 13th Century that allows you to get a glimpse of what the Sukhothai Kingdom was like back in the days.

7. Ayutthaya, Central Thailand
Sukhothai isn't the only ancient site you can visit in Thailand. Ayutthaya, which is only around an hour's drive from Bangkok, is another historical site where you will find a ton of amazingly well-preserved ancient structures that are even bigger and more impressive than the ones in Sukhothai. After Sukhothai was established in the 13th Century, Ayutthaya was soon founded in the south not long after and became a competing city to Sukhothai. Ayutthaya came up on top a few centuries later and became the capital city of Siam which in turn created a foundation that made up the Thai modern history of today.
Many monuments and temples constructed between the 16th and 18th century are still surviving at Ayutthaya Historical Park, like these spires at Wat Chai Watthanaram, the sizable temple complex at Wat Maha That, and the white pagodas at Wat Phra Si Sanphet. Due to its proximity to Bangkok, Ayutthaya is a fantastic weekend getaway for travelers who are only in Thailand for a short period of time or for those searching for an exciting day trip from Bangkok. All you need to do to explore this historic city at your own pace is ride the train to Ayutthaya and rent a bike.

8. Kanchanaburi, Central Thailand
Kanchanaburi, which is only 140 km from Bangkok, is another fantastic destination in Thailand for travelers wishing to get away from the busy metropolis and explore some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the region. The province is home to the pristine Erawan Falls which is considered to be one of the most magnificent waterfalls in Thailand. With its stunning layers of cascades, the clear blue water, and over 7 levels for us to explore, it is not hard to see why the people considered it as it is so. Kanchanaburi is also a historically significant city during World War 2 as the place the Japanese forced POWs to construct the famous Death Railway and the River Kwai Bridge so you will find plenty of museums like the Death Railway Museum and the Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre to pique your curiosity.

9. Khao Sok Lake, Southern Thailand
Undoubtedly, one of my favorite spots in Thailand is Khao Sok Lake. You may get as near to nature as possible at Khao Sok Lake, which is situated deep inside the Ratchaprapha Dam in Surat Thani.
One of the best things to do in Khao Sok is to take a boat tour around the lake and spend the night—or three, as I did—on one of these floating bungalows that are secluded deep inside the body of water, surrounded by unspoiled wilderness, limestone mountains, and the serene and clear water of Ratchaprapha Dam. What is so amazing about this is that once you are in Khao Sok Lake, spending the night at these floating bungalows, you will be completely off-the-grid and isolated from civilization. You will not get any internet connection or phone reception inside Khao Sok Lake. All there is to do here is to go kayaking, boat safari, swim, and eat seafood. It is the ultimate digital detox place anyone can ask for.

10. Krabi, Southern Thailand
Krabi is home to many stunning beaches and adventure activities where you can experience the calmness of sandy beaches and the adrenaline-pumping activities around stunning limestone cliffs and dense mangroves all in one trip. Some of the most stunning beaches in the nation include Ao Nang Beach and Railey Beach, which both have a wide range of activities available, from relaxing by the water to more active pursuits like kayaking, trekking, and rock climbing. This is the place to be if your idea of Thailand is lounging by the beach, sipping coconut water directly from the coconut, and living a carefree beach lifestyle.
